Next Thursday, July 10 at 11 am, the Fundación Alternativas presents at the headquarters of CESEDEN (Paseo de la Castellana, 61) the debate The increase in Spanish defense spending: Financing and needs.

The current international and European context, marked by new threats and conflicts such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine or the possibility of withdrawal from the USA. of Donald Trump’s collective defense in NATO, is putting strong pressure on European governments to increase their defense spending.

At the Summit of the Alliance last June, it is planned to go beyond a figure of 2% of GDP, even reaching 5%. Against this, the Fundación Alternativas, with the document The increase in Spanish defense spending. Financing and needs, gives an overview of the current situation of defence spending in Spain, possible expenditure scenarios and their implications, and possible funding routes (national and European), offering some conclusions and recommendations.

With the presentation of this report, Fundación Alternativas aims to shed light on this issue and invites you to participate in this great debate that is very present in Spanish society at the moment.

Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez, Secretary-General of the Defense Policy, and Diego López Garrido, Executive Vice President of the Fundación Alternativas; Antonio Fonfría, co-author of the Report and Professor at Universidad Complutense Facultad C. Económicas y Empresariales. The debate will be moderated by Marina Pina, journalist of El Mundo and expert in Defense. Must register at this link. The debate can be followed online on YouTube.
