The Diplomat
At the closing ceremony of the General Assembly of the Spanish National Association of Equipment Manufacturers (SERCOBE), held on 13 June in Madrid, at the Auditorio Meeting Place, representatives of the Government of Spain, the business sector and the Diplomatic Corps analysed the challenges facing Europe in the current context of geopolitical turbulence.
Special attention in the discussions was given to the situation in Ukraine in the context of continued Russian aggression. Spain’s Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, reaffirmed strong support for Ukraine, stressing that “Ukraine defends not only its own borders but also the borders of shared European values”.
The Ambassador of Ukraine, Serhii Pohoreltsev, also addressed the audience, thanking the Government and people of Spain for their solidarity and urging Spanish companies to continue to participate actively in the reconstruction of Ukraine. “The reconstruction of our country is not only an urgent need, he said, but also an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation, economic partnerships and sustainable development. Unfortunately, due to the daily attacks by Russia, the reconstruction workload continues to increase. Russia is a destroyer of international peace and security. Only determined actions can stop the aggressor. It is essential to increase pressure and maintain international unity. Peace through force is the only way to end aggression and achieve a just peace.”
