Eduardo González
The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the appointment of Juan Lugo Sanchiz to the position of Ambassador to the Special Mission for Mediterranean Affairs.
A graduate in Law from the Complutense University and a member of the Diplomatic Service in 2001, he served in the Office of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-2002) and served as Deputy Assistant Director General of the Diplomatic Information Office (2009-2011), Advisory Member in the Directorate General for International Relations of the Ministry of the Interior (2012-2013), Counselor in the Directorate General for Economic Diplomacy, and Deputy Assistant Director General for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (2022-2025).
Abroad, he has held the positions of Consul and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Spanish Embassy in Equatorial Guinea (2002-2004), Cultural Counselor and Consul at the Spanish Embassy in Greece (2004-2009), Deputy Consul General in Uruguay (2013-2017), and Counselor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union in Brussels (2017-2022).
In his duties, he has focused in recent years on foreign policy toward the former Soviet republics, as well as EU neighborhood and security policy. He holds the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, the Officer of the Order of Civil Merit, the White Badge of the Order of the Civil Guard, and the Gold Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Phoenix of Greece.
