Traslados, the documentary that reconstructs with rigor and sensitivity one of the most atrocious crimes of the last civil-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983) will be released in cinemas next Friday, June 27.
Directed by Nicolás Gil Lavedra and based on an original idea of the actress and producer Zoe Hochbaum, this documentary offers a deep and moving look at the so-called flights of death, a systematic extermination practice in whichmissing persons were thrown alive into the sea or to the Rio de la Plata from military aircraft.
Released in Argentina last September, Transfers has consolidated its presence on the international festival circuit. The film was presented at the San Sebastián Festival, the Seattle Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention from the Jury, the Warsaw Festival and the Malaga Festival, among other highlights.
Through testimonies of former detainees, relatives of victims, specialists and key figures such as federal judge Daniel Rafecas, the president of Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo Estela de Carlotto, the pilot and filmmaker Enrique Piñeyro and the Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the documentary reconstructs this dark chapter of Argentine history. It also incorporates previously unseen footage, animations and emotional recreations that make up a puzzle as devastating as it is revealing.
One of the most striking moments of the film is the recovery in 2023 of the Skyvan PA-51 aircraft, used in these extermination flights, thanks to research by Enrique Piñeyro. The aircraft, which operated in the United States without its owners knowing its past, was repatriated to Argentina and became a material proof of the crimes of the dictatorship and a symbol of historical memory.
