The Foreign Service branch of the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) union has expressed its “deep concern” about the situation of the workers associated with the offices of the General State Administration in Tel Aviv, Tehran, and Jerusalem due to the armed conflict between Israel and Iran.

“The escalation of the war between Israel and Iran and the growing deterioration of the geopolitical context in the region pose a clear risk to the integrity, health, and working conditions of the workers serving in these offices and compels us to demand an immediate, coordinated, and effective response from the responsible ministries,” the union stated in a statement.

“CCOO-Exterior has already contacted the various ministerial departments involved to request detailed information on the measures taken to date and to demand that the physical safety, emotional stability, access to health coverage, and full respect for the labor rights of the affected personnel be guaranteed at all times,” it continued.

Likewise, CCOO expresses its “support and closeness to all colleagues working in such exceptional conditions,” amidst the “stress, emotional pressure, and uncertainty that comes with carrying out duties in contexts of armed conflict.”

“In times as complex as these, we also vindicate the commitment, professionalism, and human value of the personnel working abroad, who represent our country in highly complex assignments, often without the resources or attention they deserve,” it adds.

Therefore, CCOO-Exterior urges the Administration to adopt “all necessary measures” to guarantee the “real, immediate, and sustained protection” of both their labor rights and their personal safety, of the personnel affected by “other ongoing armed conflicts, such as the one in Ukraine.”
