Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares met this Friday in Madrid with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, with whom he discussed, among other issues, European security and defense, Russian aggression against Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, and the military escalation in the Middle East.

Bettel, who visited Spain to participate in an official reception organized by the Embassy of the Grand Duchy in Madrid on the occasion of Luxembourg’s National Day, was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Viana Palace.

During the meeting, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, the two ministers reviewed bilateral and economic relations between the two countries.

In this regard, according to the Foreign Ministry, Albares highlighted the interest of numerous Spanish companies in the Luxembourg market and encouraged investors from that country to explore opportunities in Spain.

For his part, according to the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry, Bettel highlighted the economic, social, and cultural ties between Luxembourg and Spain and recalled, in this regard, “the numerous high-level visits held in recent months,” which “demonstrate the desire to continue strengthening the various areas of cooperation.”

The two ministers also discussed the international situation, particularly European security and defense, preparations for the NATO summit, Russian aggression against Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, and the military escalation in the Middle East.

Regarding this topic, Xavier Bettel warned of the negative consequences of both Israeli attacks against Iran’s nuclear and civilian infrastructure and Iranian attacks against Israeli civilian targets.
