Flamenco songs, fado and Arab-Andalusian music will be the protagonists of the concert entitled Crossing voices and rhythms, which presents Casa Árabe de Madrid tomorrow at 8 pm between the Moroccan singer Amina Alaoui and the Spanish guitarist José Luis Montón. Free admission until capacity is full, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event is part of the international project “Arabic in Spanish”, which explores the socio-cultural importance that the various uses of Arabic have had throughout its long history in the Iberian Peninsula.

The concert will be followed by a conversation in which the performers will discuss the role of Arabic in their musical production with members of “Arabic in Spanish” and the audience.

Amina Alaoui, interpreter of Arab-Andalusian music and world ambassador of this tradition, combines singing, composition and musicological research. Born in Fez, Morocco, she comes from a family with strong roots in the Moroccan academic and popular traditions as well as a contemporary intellectual and artistic environment. He learned to play the piano and was introduced to European classical music by Mohamed Abou Drar, conductor, and studied at the Rabat conservatory (1979-1981) with Ahmed Aydoun and M. Ouassini.

José Luis Montón, guitarist and composer, has received several prestigious awards such as the Barcelona and Nimes Competitions, the “Copa Teatro Pavón” of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the award for best music in the “Certamen coreográfico” of the Teatro Albéniz or the “Premio de la Música”, together with the violinist Ara Malikian. With his guitar he has toured the great stages of the world and in his projects there are artists like Carmen Linares, Mayte Martín, Ara Malikian, Rosalía, Miguel Poveda, Pitingo,  María Toledo, Antonio Canales, Javier Ruibal or Clara Montes, among others.
