Casa Árabe, in collaboration with the Tunisian Embassy, is organizing a concert on Thursday 12 June at 8 pm by singer, musicologist and composer Syrine Ben Moussa, one of the few female voices of Arab-Andalusian music in Tunisia.
Syrine Ben Moussa, accompanied by percussionist Dahmane Khalfa and violinist Iyadh Labbene, invites you to rediscover a living tradition through a musical experience that combines knowledge and emotion, authenticity and modernity. A concert where roots dialogue with the present and cultural heritage becomes a bridge between cultures. This concert reflects both its deep bond with the maluf and the classical Tunisian repertoire, as well as its eclectic influences and its openness to new horizons.
Maluf is one of the most emblematic musical traditions in Tunisia, with roots that go back to the Andalusian music brought from the Iberian Peninsula in the fifteenth century. This genre is characterized by its complex and refined structure, based on suites called nūba, which combine sung poetry with melodies performed by traditional instrument sets such as the ʿ ūd (lute), the qanun (zither), the violin and the darbuka (drum). Maluf is not only an artistic expression, but also a cultural heritage deeply linked to the Tunisian identity. Their interpretation is usually reserved for special occasions, ceremonies and cultural events, and has been preserved thanks to the efforts of institutions such as the Tunisian Music Institute and various groups that continue to transmit this ancestral art from generation to generation.
