Madrid Book Fair, the Instituto Cultural Rumano presents…

Romania participates in the 84th edition of the Madrid Book Fair, at the Parque de El Retiro, with an extensive literary program organized by the Instituto Cultural Rumano, with the support of the Romanian Embassy.

At stand 386 – 27C, International Zone, the public will be able to discover and acquire a valuable selection of volumes signed by Romanian authors translated into Spanish, as well as titles in Romanian.

In the context of this dialogue between languages and spaces, Romania marks its presence at the Madrid Book Fair under its own motto: Real Spaces. Imaginary spaces. The Instituto Cultural Rumano presents a rigorous selection of recent titles, signed by some of the most valuable contemporary Romanian authors. Through events such as autograph sessions, meetings with writers and poetry recitals, Romania invites the public to explore universes where memory, identity and fiction are intertwined, reflecting the central theme of the edition: Literature as a means of connecting cultures.

The programme includes meetings with authors, round tables on literature, philosophy and theatre, poetry and music recitals, workshops for children and book presentations. This year’s guests include: Dan Lungu, Costică Brădățan, Ioana Pârvulescu, Corina Oproae, Lavinia Braniște, Ioana Gruia, Zoran Petrovici and Camelia Cavadia.

Since 1967, the event has transformed the Paseo de Coches del Parque into a true meeting point for readers, authors and publishing professionals. With 365 booths and more than 1,100 editors present, this year’s edition marks an important step towards sustainability, being the first to run entirely on solar energy.

Under the official motto New York illuminates the Book Fair, the organizers propose a reflection on the American metropolis as a surprising and essential space for literature in Spanish. More than 350 cultural events will be held during the 17-day event, many in collaboration with the New York International Book Fair and prestigious universities such as NYU, Columbia and Yale.
