The Diplomat
The Council of Ministers appointed Félix Costales Artieda this Tuesday to the position of Spanish ambassador to Nigeria, replacing Juan Ignacio Sell.
A law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid, he joined the diplomatic service in 1985. He has served in several Spanish diplomatic missions abroad: in Jamaica, Mexico, Tunisia, and Italy, primarily as a political advisor.
He served as an advisor to the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs between 2002 and 2003 and as Deputy Director General for Foreign Policy between 2004 and 2008, when he was appointed Spanish ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a position he held until 2012. He subsequently served as Secretary General of the Spain-Brazil Council Foundation between 2012 and 2015, and from that year until 2018, he served as Spanish ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania.
From November 2018 to July 2023, he served as Minister-Counselor at the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See (Rome), and from August 2023 to the present, he has been responsible for Maritime Security Affairs in the Directorate-General for Security and Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, the Council of Ministers has appointed Jesús Ángel Celada Pérez as Ambassador-on-Special Mission for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Raúl Santiago Fuentes Milani as Ambassador-on-Special Mission for Global Health.
