Azerbaijan’s National Assembly visits the Congress and Senate

Sahiba Gafarova, president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited this week the Congress of Deputies and the Senate of Spain, where she held meetings with the presidents of the two institutions, Francina Armengol and Pedro Rollán, respectively.

 

During her stay in the Lower House, the Congress of Deputies, Sahiba Gafarova, signed the Book of Honour. Francina Armengol expressed confidence that this visit would help to further expand relations between the two parliaments and countries. Expressed confidence that they would continue to support cooperation between parliaments and governments. It was stressed that the development of economic relations between the two countries is also of great importance and several Spanish companies are very interested in working in Azerbaijan.

 

The meeting also held an exchange of views on economic relations between Azerbaijan and Spain. The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan noted that there are good prospects for the development of relations in renewable energy and other areas. It was emphasized that both Azerbaijan and Spain are doing relevant work in the field of renewable energies. At present, Azerbaijan is implementing major projects in this field and ensuring the export of the energy obtained to Europe. Today, Azerbaijan is a reliable supplier of energy to European countries, including Spain, and the participation of the Spanish company in TAP is one of the successful examples of our cooperation.

 

The current situation in the South Caucasus was also discussed during the meeting. Sahiba Gafarova provided comprehensive information on the process of normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the history of the conflict between the two countries, the restoration of territorial integrity, the sovereignty of Azerbaijan and the construction work carried out in the liberated Azerbaijani territories.

 

Also, the president of the Upper House, the Senate, Pedro Rollán, received in the Plaza de la Marina Española to Sahiba Gafarova and his delegation. Rollan greeted the Azerbaijani delegation in the Autonomous Communities’ hall. Subsequently, they held a meeting in the Senate’s Chambers of Honour, at which matters pertaining to parliamentary diplomacy were discussed. The visit ended with an institutional photo in the Old Hall.
