Furat (Euphrates in Arabic) is a musical project that rescues old songs of women singers who lived between 1920 and 1960 in the vicinity of the Euphrates River and presented rich masterpieces with a unique and contemporary style for their time. Basma Jabr met with producer and laudist Muhannad Nasser on a space-time adventure to release and produce this album.
Jabr’s delicate and powerful voice, coupled with Nasser’s unique spirituality, make up a harmonious duo that transports listeners to an emotional and musical journey through different worlds between Arabic music, jazz and flamenco. Complete the line-up Óscar Antolí on clarinet and kaval, wind instruments that add a vibrant intensity to the melody.
Basma Jabr aspires to continue the work of those great singers who marked an era. Its music respects and preserves its rich heritage, while attracting a contemporary audience. This is a unique musical journey that fuses tradition and modernity.
Casa Árabe and the Cultural Forum of Austria once again collaborate to make visible the cultural connections between Austria and Spain through an East-West hybridization conceived in Vienna and that in this Spanish tour goes through Madrid and Cordoba.
