The Diplomat

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, met this Friday in Paris with the development cluster of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to prepare the details of the IV International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in Seville from June 30 to July 3.
During the meeting, according to the Ministry, Albares emphasized the significance of the International Conference and called for participation at the highest level. The Minister also held a bilateral meeting with the Director of the OECD Development Centre, Ragnheidur Elín Árnadóttir. The objective of the Conference is the approval of a new development financing framework and, according to the Foreign Ministry, "represents a great opportunity for the international community to promote the mobilization of policies and resources necessary to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda." “We need new energy and new tools to foster collective action, transformative change, and greater impact,” the minister stated before the cluster. To achieve this, he added, “we must combine ambition with action. Seville must produce concrete and viable results.” In this regard, Albares emphasized the need to be present in Seville at the highest level to demonstrate commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation. Minister Albares also met with the Director of the OECD Development Centre (DEV), Ragnheidur Elín Árnadóttir, whom he thanked for her contribution to the success of Seville. Specifically, the DEV is promoting, with the support of Spain, several side events to the Conference, one to promote tax justice and another on development metrics beyond GDP (“Beyond GDP”). The DEV is a forum for dialogue on economic and social development policy whose objective is for countries to share their experiences and contribute expert analysis and studies, such as the Regional Outlook Reports. "Spain defends this approach of partnership and dialogue on an equal footing, as demonstrated by the significant contributions made in recent years, which position our country as a key partner for the Center," concluded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
