Albares will travel to Ukraine this Friday with his EU counterparts to support the tribunal against Russia

Eduardo González Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced this Thursday in Warsaw that he will travel to Kyiv this Friday, along with his EU counterparts, to show his support for Ukraine and the international tribunal that will try Russia's crime of aggression. Albares made this announcement during his meeting with the press after attending the informal meeting of foreign ministers, organized by the Polish Presidency in Warsaw on May 7 and 8 under the Gymnich format. "All the foreign ministers of the European Union will be in Ukraine to show our political support and to make it clear that Ukraine's future lies in the European Union, because they are defending not only its sovereignty, but also European values," the minister stated. "We will also analyze the text regarding the tribunal to try the crime of aggression," he continued. “Impunity cannot be the price of peace. Those who commit crimes in Ukraine must be held accountable,” he warned. “Of course, Spain fully supports these texts and the code for judging crimes committed in Ukraine, and tomorrow we will send a firm message: we will stand by Ukraine as long as there is no just and lasting peace in that country,” he concluded. Gaza Furthermore, Albares asked his EU counterparts to support the resolution presented by Spain to the United Nations General Assembly to support Gaza and reject the Israeli blockade of the enclave. Albares discussed “the terms of the text” with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa on Thursday, and the goal is to present it “immediately,” he explained in Warsaw. “I have asked all European countries to join the resolution that Spain is presenting at the United Nations,” he declared. “I have made it very clear that, at this moment, the world will judge the European Union by how it positions itself in Gaza,” he added. “It is more important than ever that Europe speak out against what is happening right now in Gaza,” he said. “Israel has obligations in the Occupied Territories, and maintaining the blockade of humanitarian aid in Gaza is completely unacceptable and must end,” Albares warned. Therefore, the objective of this text, he stated, is for “everyone to take a stand to try to break this blockade and to try to advance the solution that we believe will bring definitive peace and stability to the Middle East: the two-state solution.” Bilateral meetings Meanwhile, Albares held a bilateral meeting with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, host of the Gymnich as part of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. “Spain and Poland reaffirm our commitment to European security and sovereignty. We work together to defend the European values of democracy, freedom, tolerance, and free trade,” the minister wrote on social media. He also met with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot. “With France, we work for a strong and autonomous Europe that protects the life plans of our citizens. For peace in Ukraine and the Middle East. For the excellent Spain-France relations,” Albares wrote. Albares also met with his counterparts from Sweden, Lithuania, and Latvia. “The security of the Baltic and Nordic countries is a fundamental part of the stability and prosperity of the EU, and Spain is actively participating in the European deployment in the East,” he wrote.
