Centro Casa Asia-Madrid (calle Mayor, 69) presents tomorrow at 9.30 am the round table The electric vehicle and its implications. Free activity upon registration at this link.

The growing role of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in the global market is significantly transforming the mobility sector in Europe, where a transition towards sustainable transport is taking place. The entry of Chinese EVs into Europe is not just a trend, but a phenomenon that is redefining the rules of the game in the global automotive industry. Chinese manufacturers have managed to develop a highly competitive supply, characterised by technological innovation, large-scale production and more affordable prices, allowing them to gain ground in key European markets, including Spain. This trend is driven by China’s strong investment in research and development, as well as policies that favour the adoption of clean energy.

In this context, it is crucial to analyze from different angles the impact of the expansion of Chinese EVs on the European and Spanish automotive ecosystem. China’s leadership, underpinned by its control of the supply chain and a decade of technological advantage over the West, is pushing Europe to rethink its industrial strategy. At the same time, the arrival of these vehicles represents a unique opportunity to accelerate the energy transition, but also brings vulnerabilities such as reliance on critical technologies and components. Tariffs, competition within the EU to attract investment into the sector, the necessary infrastructure for charging stations and the integration of renewable energies, as well as advances in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving are other key issues to be addressed.

This event will bring together industry experts, policy makers and industry representatives to provide a platform for dialogue on the challenges and opportunities that this disruptive change poses for the European automotive market, with particular attention to its impact in Spain.

After a welcome speech by Emilio de Miguel, director of the Centro Casa Asia-Madrid; Yao Jing, ambassador from China; Ramón María Moreno, secretary general, Fundación Consejo España China, and Julio Trujillo, founder of 4Asia, will open the event, in which they will participate, apart from the Chinese ambassador, Pablo Cubel, partner, Cuatrecasas; Malgorzata Jakimow, Joint Research Centre, European Commission; Juan Manuel Martínez Mourin, president, Spanish transport association, and a representative of an automotive company (TBC). Important note: this event will be held partly in English and partly in Spanish without simultaneous translation. After the event, a coffee will be served for attendees.
