The Diplomat

The ambassadors of Honduras, Marlon Brevé, and Colombia, Eduardo Avila, yesterday hosted the last meeting of The Diplomat, which took place at the Hotel Meliá Princesa and was organized together with the Association of Foreign Diplomats (ADE) and the respective embassies of the two Latin American countries.

Until 9 April, Honduras held the presidency pro tempore of CELAC, and that day Colombia took over.

In a very interesting discussion entitled Transfer of the Presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) from Honduras to Colombia, the two ambassadors highlighted the work carried out by Honduras as a country leaving the presidency and the objectives and challenges of Colombia in its new mission at the head of CELAC.

The event was attended by more than 50 foreign diplomats, together with the general secretary of the Ibero-American Social Security Organization, Gina Magnolia Riaño; Federico Zorzán, Adviser to the Directorate-General for Ibero-America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Gustavo Santos, Director-General for the Americas of UN Tourism, and other personalities from various institutions and universities.

The Diplomat’s Tertulias have been held regularly for years and address different aspects of politics, economy and society in Spain and abroad. Its objective is to offer foreign diplomats different approaches and points of view on different aspects of the Spanish and world reality, under the condition of strict confidentiality of what is discussed in the room.

The event was attended by a large number of people, who were always interested in what the speakers had to say.

The huge Sabatini lounge at the Meliá Princesa in Madrid was an ideal setting for The Diplomat’s meeting.
