The book La conciencia desdichada, by Benjamin Fondane, translated by Christian Santacroce (Hermida Editores), will be presented.
The wretched conscience is the most important philosophical work of Benjamin Fondane, a Romanian poet, writer and critic who was expatriated to France in 1923 and naturally aligned at its beginnings, and at the root once forged his great friendship, with the thinker Lev Shestov. Both fundamentally denounce the rationalist culture marked by positivism. At first close to the subversive spirit of Dadaism, he quickly identified its revolt through the absurd with Shestov’s irrationalist approach. It is under the influence and closeness to the philosophy of his teacher, which leads him to deconstruct the tradition of logos originating from Greece. Its light to denounce the radical conflict between constructed reality and existence alien to all of it, between knowledge and its opposite. From the troubled light on this intimate divorce, unhappy consciousness is born.
Juan Manuel Bonet has been curator of numerous exhibitions. A recognized figure in the field of avant-garde, he has been director of the Instituto Cervantes, the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) and the National Museum Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and is currently an advisor to the European contemporary painting collection of the Bancaja Foundation. Author of several books of poetry, a dictionary on the avant-gardes in Spain, a book on Ramón Gómez de la Serna, and several critical editions and monographs.
