Next Friday, April 25, at 6.30 pm, the Fundación Carlos de Amberes (calle Claudio Coello, 99) joins another year of the largest literary festival in the community of Madrid: La Noche de los Libros. A festival in which bookshops, libraries and cultural institutions from all over the region participate; and in which, throughout a whole day, and until midnight, all kinds of activities are organized around literature: conferences, exhibitions, concerts, etc.
This year, the Fundación Carlos de Amberes is organizing the conference-colloquium The reason for being a bibliophile, an event that will bring together key members of the Society of 100 Bibliophiles: John Zulueta (president of the Society of 100 Bibliophiles), Pedro Cátedra (Professor at the University of Salamanca and RAE Academic) and Diego Fernández de Henestrosa (President of Banco Alcalá and member of the Society of 100 Bibliophiles).
The event will serve as a foreword and presentation for a temporary exhibition on bibliophilia to be held at the Fundación Carlos de Amberes this spring. In fact, the institution has hosted several activities that place it as a reference in this field; such as several editions of the International Fair of Ancient Books.
On the other hand, on Thursday, April 24 at 7 pm, the chapel of the Foundation presents the concert Cromatismo in the English sacred polyphony, fourth appointment of the VI Renacen Festival. On this occasion the magnificent Ensemble Quadrivium proposes a journey through the development and change in the compositional formulas of English sacred music since the late medieval period. That is, from a close relationship with the style and harmonies of popular music, to a new English style influenced by the old continent that was evolving into softer use of music resulting in a cleaner and more fluid style.
The Renacen Festival of Renaissance and Baroque arts is organized by the Fundación Carlos de Amberes and the Compañía Garcilasos, and is resolved as a unique opportunity to approach the music of the past from the hand of groups of a proven quality and professional career.
