Ibero-American tourism leaders will define the future of the sector in Colombia

The Diplomat Representatives from leading institutions, investment and cooperation agencies, academia, business leaders, and experts from across Ibero-America will analyze the best ways to achieve sustainable, inclusive, and smart tourism and delve deeper into the roadmap for the sector during the Second Tourism Forum, which will be held on May 14 and 15 in Santa Marta, Colombia. According to the CEOE in a press release, the event will address, under the theme "From social innovation to sustainable competitiveness. The path to change," issues such as public-private engagement and action, governance, employability, and training; social innovation for sustainable tourism; digitalization, technology, connectivity, and logistics; and impact tourism. The event was promoted by the Ibero-American Business Council (CEIB), the Ibero-American Federation of Young Entrepreneurs (FIJE), PROCOLOMBIA, and UN Tourism, with the support of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), CAF (Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean), the International Organization of Employers (IOE), ICEX (Export and Investment), and the Colombian Hotel and Tourism Association (COTELCO). The forum will consist of two days. The first, held behind closed doors, will focus on a dialogue between government representatives and the heads of business organizations in the Ibero-American business community to discuss impact tourism, the importance of local communities as stakeholders in global tourism, and governance in the field of tourism. The objective of this first day is to reach and agree on a series of conclusions and ideas that will be compiled in a priority document on the present and future of tourism. Various workshops and activities will also take place that same day for all those interested in signing up and participating. On the second day, open to the public, leaders from across the region, including representatives of institutions, investment and cooperation agencies, academia, and business leaders, will address topics of great interest in various panels. Specifically, the discussion will focus on the participation of social actors and local communities in the benefits and progress of the tourism sector, the progress toward a more sustainable, smart, and inclusive tourism model, and the use of social innovation and technology in the sector.
