Eduardo González

The Vox Parliamentary Group has called on the government to abolish the Arabic Language and Moroccan Culture Program (PLACM), which is funded by Rabat with the aim of "undermining national culture."
In a non-legislative motion presented on March 26 for discussion in the Congressional plenary session, the far-right party states that PLACM is a program that seeks "the promotion of Moroccan culture through teaching in Spanish primary and secondary schools." This program, it continues, is funded by the Moroccan government through the Hassan II Foundation, a "foundation dedicated to sending imams to European countries to guide Moroccan immigrants residing in these nations," and is coordinated by staff from the Moroccan Embassy in Spain and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. The program's teachers, which have been in operation since 2013, "are civil servants chosen by the Moroccan government to practice this profession in Spain," it adds. "Regarding the selection of teachers without review by regional authorities," Vox denounces the case of Ayman Adlbi, "leader of the Spanish Islamic Commission, the entity responsible for managing the activities of Muslims with the government and autonomous communities regarding mosques and schools." According to Vox, "Adlbi was investigated for terrorism, as he was found to be responsible for a jihadist network whose donations funded groups linked to Al-Qaeda in Syria." The far-right party also points out that, according to 2024 data from the National Institute of Statistics, "there are 1,092,892 Moroccans in Spain, making them the largest foreign population in Andalusia, Catalonia, Castile and León, the Balearic Islands, Murcia, Extremadura, the Basque Country, and Ceuta and Melilla." This number represents "almost 15% of the total foreign population in Spain." "Given that the demographic trend implies an exponential increase in the number of immigrants of Moroccan origin, we must promote the cultural adaptation of these immigrants to Spanish culture in Spain," he continues. "We cannot accept the promotion, funding, and provision of classrooms whose objective is to undermine national culture and create cultural confrontations that lead only to cultural segregation," it adds. Therefore, Vox's non-legislative motion urges the government to "eliminate the implementation of the Program for the Teaching of Arabic Language and Moroccan Culture (...) throughout Spain, with the aim of guaranteeing social cohesion and our cultural identity" and to "promote the adaptation of students of foreign origin to our culture."
