The Diplomat

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has renewed its agreement with the Foundation for Law and Human Rights to provide legal advice to Spanish women victims of violence abroad.
The renewal was signed this Wednesday by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Xavier Martí Martí, and the President of the General Council of the Spanish Bar Association, Salvador González Martín, and will last for four more years, extendable for another four. Under this agreement, as reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in a press release, the Embassies and Consulates General will continue to provide the necessary information to Spanish women who experience violence abroad regarding all their rights and the possibility of requesting legal assistance in accordance with the provisions of the Convention. Legal assistance for women extends to their minor descendants and persons under their guardianship, custody, or guardianship, in the event that they are victims of violence abroad. Assistance is provided by legal professionals specialized in the subject matter and includes both the possibility of counseling prior to a possible return to Spain and once the return has occurred. In Spain, specialized free defense and representation, provided by the same legal department, is guaranteed in all judicial and administrative proceedings directly or indirectly caused by the violence suffered for all victims of violence against women who request it.
