The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, received his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, this Thursday, coinciding with the commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness, and Cooperation.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Viana Palace in Madrid, Albares highlighted “Tunisia’s key role in the European Union’s Southern Neighborhood,” as highlighted by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Strategic Partnership with the EU in 2023 and the anniversary of the signing of the EU-Tunisia Association Agreement, which also celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025.
Furthermore, the minister conveyed Spain’s desire to deepen cooperation with Tunisia and stated that the reopening of the Spanish Cooperation Office will promote lines of work on gender, youth, and local governance, and define a multi-year partnership framework.
The Foreign Minister also appealed to Tunisia for support to strengthen joint work on the African continent within the framework of the new Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028, which makes Africa a priority in Spanish foreign policy and includes North Africa for the first time.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the minister reiterated the need to call for an end to hostilities, resume negotiations, urge the immediate release of all hostages, and secure the release of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
