The State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Spain, Lim Soosuk, presided over the presentation of the logo commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this Wednesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the ceremony, both the State Secretary and the ambassador highlighted the achievements made over these 75 years in Spanish-Korean political, economic, and cultural cooperation, including close collaboration in the multilateral arena, according to a press release from the Ministry.
Separately, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and his South Korean counterpart, Cho Tae-yul, exchanged letters of congratulations on the 75th anniversary. In his message, Albares highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries, “based on shared values, mutual respect, and constantly growing political, economic, and cultural cooperation.”
According to the Foreign Ministry, in recent years, Spain and the Republic of Korea have strengthened their ties through high-level exchanges, such as the state visits of the King and Queen in 2019 and the President of Korea in 2021, the official visit of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in 2022, and the visits expected this year to commemorate the 75th anniversary, including the inauguration of the Cervantes Institute in Seoul.
On the economic front, the Foreign Ministry continued, bilateral trade has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, and Korean investment in Spain is increasing, especially in the electric vehicle battery sector.
