The Diplomat
Last Monday, the Italian Embassy hosted a presentation of the series Il Gattopardo, by Netflix Italia, already available on the streaming platform since 5 March.
In his opening speech, the Italian ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, highlighted how “this production, with a modern and powerful language, honors and interprets the beauty and complexity of the literary work of Tomasi di Lampedusa”. He added that “the series brings to the screen a deep reflection on historical changes and the passage of time, offering a new and powerful opportunity to understand Sicily and the unique value of its culture and history. The worldwide broadcast of Netflix will further promote this essential part of the Italian identity, cradle of the Mediterranean, crossroads of peoples and civilizations, with its extraordinary artistic and cultural treasures”.
The event was attended by personalities from business, hotel, cultural, artistic and Spanish aristocracy, as well as representatives of Netflix, including Tinny Andreatta, vice president of Netflix Italia; Fabrizio Donvito, general manager of Indiana Production, and Esperanza Ibáñez, Director of Public Policies at Netflix for Spain. The guest of honor was actor Saul Nanni, who plays the character of Tancredi Falconeri in the series. To conclude the presentation, the Embassy offered guests a dinner at which the historical research for the menu by the head of the diplomatic delegation, Giuseppe Ferraro, was especially appreciated.
