In a conversation with Elena Medel introduced by Margarita Dominguez Barroso, the author will take the assistant, in the presentation of her book La semana perpetua (The Perpetual Week), through the life of a dysfunctional family and its interactions with modern society, addressing universal themes such as loneliness, the search for meaning and the relationship between the poetic and the everyday.
The Perpetual Week, Laura Vazquez’s first novel, is a work that unravels the complexities of contemporary existence with a unique and deeply poetic literary voice. The narrative focuses on a dysfunctional family whose members face the internal and external conflicts of a fragmented modern society. Characters include a father who wants to erase his past, an absent mother who becomes a negated presence, a son who finds refuge in the digital world and poetry, and a daughter who struggles to maintain her balance in an overwhelming reality. These voices are intertwined with stories from teenagers, seniors and internet users, creating a kaleidoscope of perspectives that reflect the multiplicity of human experience.
It has established itself as an essential work within contemporary European literature for its stylistic uniqueness, thematic depth and ability to connect with the concerns of the modern reader. It is a book that transcends the limits of conventional narrative, inviting us to reflect on life.
