The Diplomat
The European Union we are in and the European Union we are heading towards was the topic of debate at the Tertulia that The Diplomat and the Embassy of Poland organized yesterday in collaboration with the Association of Foreign Diplomats at the Hotel Meliá Princesa, in Madrid.
At the halfway point of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Polish Embassy in Spain wanted to take stock of these first three months, while trying to analyze the short and medium-term prospects for the continent, taking into account, among other variables, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House and the need for European rearmament.
Under the title “Poland, history and current geopolitics”, the Polish journalist and writer Witold Szablowski and the professor and specialist in the former Soviet space Ricardo Ruiz de la Serna, presented by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Polish Embassy, Monica Krzepkowska, debated with the attendees on the future of the continent at a time of geopolitical uncertainty such as the present.
The gathering was attended by more than forty foreign diplomats and academics specialized in international relations from various universities in Madrid.
The Diplomat’s Tertulias have been held periodically for years and deal with different aspects of Spanish politics, economy and society. Its objective is to offer foreign diplomats different approaches and points of view on different aspects of the Spanish reality, under the condition of strict confidentiality of what is discussed in the room.
