Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel Albares met this Tuesday in Brussels with the EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, Lithuanian Andrius Kubilius, with whom he discussed “the importance of ensuring European security and deterrence.”
“We discussed the importance of ensuring European security and deterrence,” the minister stated on social media. “We also discussed support for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine,” he added.
The meeting took place one day before European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presents Readiness 2030, a strategy to increase defense spending, strengthen deterrence and defense capabilities, enhance cooperation among member states, and boost the European defense industry, ensuring that the European Union is fully prepared to face potential threats by 2030.
Albares also met with Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos in Brussels. “We discussed EU enlargement, the Western Balkans, and the European path for Ukraine and Moldova. We also discussed the EU’s Eastern Partnership,” said the minister, who is scheduled to meet this Wednesday, also in Brussels, with International Partnerships Commissioner Jozef Sikela.
