The Queer Film Festival Taiwan opens paths of freedom in Spain

The Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spain, in collaboration with the Fundación Triangle , are organizing an itinerant cycle of queer films from Taiwan. After its successful presentation in Madrid 2024, the Queer Film Cycle of Taiwan: Opening Paths of Freedom begins its tour of Spain in the city of Seville followed by Valladolid, Almería, Córdoba, Madrid, Zaragoza, Bilbao and Badajoz.

 

With the AndaLesGai festival, Seville will be the first city to receive the cycle from today to 19 March with the screening of the films: The wedding banquet, directed by Ang Lee, nominated for the Oscar, Who ll Stop the Rain, directed by Su I-Hsuan; Closing with the documentary Small Talk by award-winning director Huang Hui-Chen.

 

The official opening of the exhibition is held this afternoon at 6 pm in the Seville headquarters of CICUS (Centro de Iniciativas Culturales de la Universidad de Sevilla), with the presence of the director of the Cultural Division of Taiwan in Spain, Augusta Chang, and Andrés Vega, Director of the AndaLesGai festival. After the presentation, a conference is planned by the film critic and director of the festival Women make Waves Mrs Pecha Lo, special guest who travels directly from Taiwan. Under the title Back to a new time zone: images and queer culture in Taiwan since the 1990s, the conference will focus on showing different perspectives on audiovisual production of queer themed shaped by cinematographic aesthetics, the social and gender events at various stages, and the influence of other classical works. The audience will have an opportunity to share and ask questions at the end of the talk.

 

The Queer Film Show Taiwan Opening paths of freedom, it will travel other cities of the Spanish geography, in which important titles of the Queer filmography of Taiwan will be shared. The festivals are: Cinhomo -Valladolid – from 11 to 18 April; Andalesgai -Almería- from 21 April to 5 May; Andalesgai -Córdoba- from 26 April to 2 May; Muestra de Cine Lésbico -Madrid- from 23 to 29 April; Zinentiendo -Zaragoza- from 30 April and 11 May; Zinegoak -Bilbao- from 23 to 30 June; FanCineQueer -Badajoz- from 7 to 17 November.
