Sánchez’s response to Trump’s discussion with Zelensky: “Ukraine, Spain is with you”

Eduardo González The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has reacted to the discussion held this Friday in the White House by the presidents of the United States and Ukraine, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky with a brief message on social networks: “Ukraine, Spain is with you”. Zelensky traveled to Washington to try to close the pre-agreement between the two countries on the right of the United States to exploit minerals in Ukraine, a condition imposed by Trump to continue helping Ukraine. At one point, the Ukrainian president tried to warn Trump not to trust the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, after which, the vice president, JD Vance, began to shout that it was not “respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack this Administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country”. “You are not in a position to tell us what we should feel,” Trump told Zelensky after the latter hinted that the US could also have problems in the future. “You are playing with the lives of millions of people, you are playing with the third world war, you are disrespecting the United States,” added the American president. After this discussion, Pedro Sánchez spread the message “Ukraine, Spain is with you” in three languages: Spanish, English and Ukrainian. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has reported through social networks that he has just spoken with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, to reiterate that “Spain is and will be with Ukraine.” Sybiha himself has responded to Albares: “Thank you, dear José Manuel Albares, for the call. I appreciate your solidarity and the continued support of Spain. We are not alone in the defense of dignity.” In statements to Cadena SER after the incident at the White House, Albares recalled that “the promise made to Ukraine by everyone, including the United States, is that if they resisted this war of aggression, we would be at their side, and we are going to keep it.” “We cannot allow a war to have a prize, it would be a defeat for the European project,” he warned. “True patriotism is European patriotism. The true patriotic reflex is to defend Europe,” he continued. “It is thanks to Europe that we have peace, stability and prosperity. Therefore, whoever does not defend European interests wants to weaken the European project,” he concluded. For his part, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, wrote on social media: “Bad news for the world about what has just happened in the White House. It only benefits the person responsible for the aggression.” “Ukraine deserves to be heard” and to have international support to achieve “a fair peace.”
