Asier Martínez Jurio

The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, will be the president of the European Committee of the Regions during the years 2027-2030, as agreed by the plenary session of this EU advisory body.
Until that period arrives, Kata Tütó, councillor of Budapest, will occupy the presidency, with Moreno Bonilla as vice-president, in such a way that they will alternate the positions throughout these five years that the mandate covers. The election of the new positions of the committee has taken place in the 164th plenary session, held this Thursday, with the attendance of three of the four local representatives of the Spanish delegation: the mayors of Barcelona and Badalona, Jaume Collboni and Xabier García Albiol, and the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias. The European Committee of the Regions brings together local and regional representatives of the EU and brings the voice of subnational administrations to the European institutions. The Spanish representation has 21 full members, 17 of them representing the autonomous communities and four representing local authorities. The president of the FEMP and mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo; the mayors of Madrid and Barcelona, José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Jaume Collboni; and the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, are the full local representatives; the mayor of Badalona, Xabier García Albiol; the mayor of Santander, second vice-president of the FEMP, Gema Ortiz; the mayor of Soria, Carlos Martínez; and the mayor of A Coruña, first vice-president of the federation, Inés Rey, are their substitutes. In this 164th plenary session, the presidents and vice-presidents of the six political commissions were also elected, which will hold their first meeting of the mandate on Friday. The president of the Xunta of Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, is among the new vice-presidents. The local Spanish representation has representatives among the members of five of these six committee commissions, specifically in CIVEX (Citizenship, Governance and Institutional and Foreign Affairs), COTER (Territorial Cohesion Policy and Budget), ECON (Economic and Monetary Affairs), ENVE (Environment, Climate Change and Energy), and SEDEC (Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture).
