Tomorrow at 19.30 hours, will take place in the Palacio Quintanar of Segovia (street of San Agustín) the presentation of the doctor in humanities, historian and researcher of the culture of comic book Bartosz Stuła, on The intersection of history and the Polish comic. Free admission until capacity is full.

During the conference, the author will present an overview of the history of Polish comics, highlighting key moments in its development. It will not only analyse the evolution of the form itself, but also the influence that historical and political events had on the Polish comic. Examples of comics that, in particular, refer to the history of Poland will be shown, showing how artists from this medium expressed their reflections on crucial moments of Polish history.

This conference is part of the parallel activities of the exhibition El cómic polaco aterriza en España, which we already reported on in The Diplomat.

Bartosz Stuła’s research focuses on contemporary history, Iberian, Latin American and American culture, and the relationship between history and comics, with special attention to comic book narrative, pop culture and post-apocalyptic threats.

He is the author of several scientific articles in which he analyzes, among other topics, the historical representation in comics and the influence of pop culture on its narrative. Also publishes outreach comic books on the Ostatnia Tawerna portal. As a member of the Polish Comic Book Studies Association, he is actively involved in research on sequential art in Poland. He has been a regular speaker at the Poznań Comic Art Festival, where he has spoken on topics such as post-apocalyptic visions in American comics, Justice League Dark, etc. He has also investigated the theme of Catalonia in comics, analyzing in his article History in comics as a defensive strategy against Catalan separatism how comics can be a tool to defend against Catalan separatism, presenting the history of the region in a graphic way.
