Until next June 12 and in the new edition of the cycle Mexico Lindo at Fundación Casa de Mexico, the action focuses on son jarocho, a traditional musical genre from the Sotavento region, in the state of Veracruz.
Combination of indigenous, African and Spanish roots that are intertwined in a rich cultural tradition dating back to the seventeenth century, its name comes from the word “jarocho”, which is a popular term for the inhabitants of Veracruz.
Son jarocho is not only music, but also an integral cultural expression. It is linked to community festivals called fandangos, where musicians, dancers and spectators gather around a stage, a wooden platform that serves as a stage for the dancers and as a percussion instrument, where the tap-dance is an essential part of the rhythm.
Living example of the cultural diversity of Mexico, this genre is a jewel of Mexican music and a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Riosentí (Being happy), Colectivo Son Jarocho (Movement of the Garden), María Moctezuma (Alebrije) and Joel Cruz (Los sones de la región de los Tuxtlas: son jarocho de Veracruz) participate.
