On his birthday, February 13, Casa Árabe pays tribute to Federico Arbós Ayuso (1946-2024), who received the honorary mention of the Friendship Prize posthumously in December last year.
National Translation Award 1988, full professor of modern and contemporary Arabic literature at the Faculty of Philology of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arbós also held various senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was director of the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo, Casablanca and Rabat.
The event will take place in the Auditorium and will begin at 7 pm with an introduction by Irene Lozano, general manager of Casa Árabe, who will give the award to the Arbós family, after which various friends and colleagues of the humanist will participate, the scholar-expert translator of the work of Al-Bayati, Adonis, Ibn Batutta, Naguib Mahfuz and Mohammed Bennís-and the affable man who was Federico.
