Eduardo González

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, warned this Thursday that the European Union must be “prepared and united” to face a possible trade war with the United States that “does not benefit” anyone and “impoverishes everyone”.
“Unity is strength”, declared Sánchez during the closing of the presentation of the National Food Strategy, held in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) and in which the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, also spoke. “Now, more than ever, the European Union must be prepared and show unity to respond to any eventuality”, he warned. “We must be prepared to make the appropriate decisions in the face of a potential trade conflict that does not benefit and Europe does not want”, he added, in relation to the possible imposition of tariffs on the EU by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. “We will be firm, do not doubt it. We will defend our farmers, ranchers and fishermen and their cooperatives, and I know that we will have the agricultural organizations on our side,” said Pedro Sánchez. In any case, he specified, Spain will always have “an outstretched hand to avoid trade wars and tariff escalations that only impoverish us all.” “In a trade war there is no winner, we all lose, especially when food is at stake, because when these trade wars end up happening, those who suffer the most are always the most vulnerable, those with the least economic resources,” he added.
