The call for the Ruy de Clavijo Scholarships 2024-2025, organized and financed jointly by Casa Asia and the University of Cádiz, through the CUNEAC- International University Center for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Vicerrectorate of Internationalization, It is aimed at awarding four (4) grants to carry out research and cultural and academic cooperation projects related to Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Afghanistan, Iran and Mongolia) in the cultural, educational, economic and socio-political fields.

It consists of 4 scholarships with a budget of 3,000 € each for the period from 15 June 2025 to 31 May 2026. The aid called may be applied for between 2 May and 31 May 2025.

The Ruy de Clavijo Scholarships are part of the Central Asia Observatory of Casa Asia and the University of Cádiz, which aims to facilitate the rapprochement between Central Asia and Spain from the political, economic and academic spheres. The call and application forms can be found at this link.

Ruy González de Clavijo was a Spanish knight born in Madrid, at the end of the 14th century. Served in the court of the king of Castile, Henry III, and in 1403 was part of the embassy sent by the same monarch to Tamerlane. The journey lasted three years and was recorded in a chronicle that was first published in 1582 with the title Life and Exploits of the Great Tamerlane. The narrative is of great interest, not only for its literary quality but also for the first-hand information it provides on the regions of Persia and Central Asia.
