The Spain-India Council Foundation presented at the last reunión de su Patronato the most recent update of the Spain-India Report. This is the sectoral report on Education and Language Education, which has been revised in 2024 to update the first report, produced in 2020.

The Spain-India Report is the most comprehensive and ambitious public document to date on the reality and potential of the nine sectors of greatest interest for joint collaboration and growth between Spain and India. This report on education and language teaching analyzes studies on India in Spain and Spain in India; agreements, collaborations and mobility in the university field; the role of public and private scholarships in bilateral training; the linguistic universe of India in Spain; the teaching of Spanish in India; and the educational, economic and public diplomacy dimension of Spanish in India.

Carmen Grijalba, analyst at the Spain-India Council Foundation, as the person responsible for reviewing and updating the document, highlighted during her presentation to the Board of Trustees the significant progress that has been made since 2020:

▪️ Promotion of Spanish in India and Hindi in Spain: Significant progress has been identified, including educational exchange programs, the expansion of language teaching centers and collaboration between universities in both countries.
▪️ Strengthening of the Instituto Cervantes in India: As a flagship project, the Instituto Cervantes has grown considerably, helping to expand knowledge of Spanish in India.
▪️ Development of training programs for Indian teachers: Significant efforts are being made by Spanish companies to train Indian teachers, adapting the approach to educational realities.

In addition, a new section has been introduced in the report, entitled “The role of digitization in language teaching between Spain and India”, which includes:

▪️ Digital platforms and innovative tools: technologies such as MOOCs and virtual reality enhance the learning of Spanish in India and Hindi in Spain.
▪️ Machine translation and natural language processing projects: facilitating teaching, cultural and professional understanding.
