The Council of Ministers has appointed this Tuesday the journalist Alexandra Gil Polo to the position of director of the Department of International Information of the Secretariat of State for Communication, the body responsible for informing the media about the activities of the Government in the international arena and coordinating the information action of the diplomatic missions of Spain abroad.
A graduate in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a Master’s in Peace, Security and Defense from the General Gutiérrez Mellado University Institute, Gil Polo lived in France for eight years.
She is specialized in violent radicalization and jihadist terrorism and is the author of the book ‘In the belly of jihad’ (Debate), translated into French, ‘Mon fils, ce djihadiste’ (City Editions). She was a correspondent for various Spanish media between 2015 and 2018 and worked as a journalist in France as assistant to the digital content director of the French magazine Afrique Magazine.
Aparate worked in collaboration with the European Parliament coordinating the Women Against Radicalisation and Extremism project, and in Spain, she coordinated the communication of the State Secretariat for Migration between February 2020 and April 2021. Subsequently, she has remained linked to institutional communication as an advisor in the Cabinet of the Minister of Inclusion and Social Security, in the State Secretariat for Communication and, since January 2024, as an international communication advisor in the Presidency of the Government.
From her new position, Alexandra Gil Polo will be responsible for transmitting information to the media about the Government’s activities in the international sphere, coordinating the external information action carried out by the communication offices of the diplomatic missions of Spain, the informative analysis of international current affairs and the information published about Spain in the international media.
Its responsibilities also include the accreditation of foreign correspondents, collaborators and special envoys, information support for journalists from international media outlets and the management of human and technical resources necessary for the coverage of state visits and trips.
