On Thursday, January 30 at 7.30 pm, the Sociedad de Conciertos La Filarmónica presents the Bach Cantatas in the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid to the choir and orchestra Collegium Vocale Gent, directed by its Philippe Herreweghe (pictured).
Philippe Herreweghe, a faithful servant of Bach’s music, debuts in the Philharmonic with his ensemble Collegium Vocale Gent and one of his most appreciated works: the Bach Cantatas. The Collegium Vocale Gent was created by the Maestro East 55 years ago, on his own initiative with a group of fellow musicians from the University of Ghent in order to interpret Bach’s music from a historical perspective. Over the years, it has become a professional group with international projection, holding up to five hundred auditions annually in order to update and adapt the staff to the needs of each program.
The program, also performed by soloists Grace Davidson, soprano; Alex Potter, contratenor; Guy Cutting, tenor, and Kresimir Strazanac, bass, will integrate the BWV 8 Cantatas “Liebster Gott, wenn werd ich sterben?” , BWV 138 “Warum betrübst du dich, mein herz”, and BWV 75 “Die Elenden sollen essen”.
