<h6><strong>Eduardo González</strong></h6> <strong>The Council of Ministers will announce on Tuesday the appointment of Íñigo de Palacio to the post of Spanish ambassador to Japan, according to diplomatic sources who spoke to <em>The Diplomat.</em></strong> Born in Madrid in 1958, with a degree in Law in 1980 and a certificate from the Academy of International Law in The Hague and a diploma in International Studies from the Diplomatic School (Madrid), De Palacio has been a member of the Diplomatic Service since 1983. He has held positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (General Directorate of International Technical Cooperation, Institute of Ibero-American Cooperation, General Directorate of International Economic Relations) and in the Spanish Embassies in Bolivia and Morocco. He was Consul General of Spain in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and counselor at the Spanish Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. After being in charge of the United Nations Subdirectorate General and the Security Council, he was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations in New York and was later appointed Ambassador of Spain to Serbia and Montenegro and Chile. In July 2014, he joined the company Indra as Global Director of Institutional Relations, after requesting a leave of absence from the Diplomatic Service. In September 2021, he returned to diplomatic activity with his appointment as Ambassador of Spain to the United Arab Emirates. He has also been an associate professor of Diplomatic and Consular Law at the Pontifical University of Comillas-ICADE (2003-2004) and is an honorary professor at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru.
