Concerts dedicated to the ‘Lady of the Clave’, Polish Wanda Landowska

From 29 January to 12 February, the Fundación Juan March (calle Castelló, 77) hosts a cycle of concerts dedicated to the “Lady of the Clave”, the Polish Wanda Landowska. A series of parallel activities will also be available until next February 13 in various institutions. More information and entries at this link.

The cycle explores these links and vindicates their fundamental contribution to the revival of the harpsichord as a concert instrument. Landowska not only stimulated the composition of new works for this instrument, but also collaborated in the construction of the ‘grand modèle de concert’ patented by the firm Pleyel. In all three concerts, a copy of this unique instrument will be heard.

Wanda Landowska (1879-1959) was one of the first international celebrities of the ancient music recovery movement. Thanks to his charisma and careful staging, she made the key a cutting-edge aesthetic choice. From 1905, and until the beginning of the Civil War, his presence in Spain was frequent and established a close relationship with such important figures as Manuel de Falla, Eduardo López-Chavarri or Francesc Pujol.

The cycle is programmed as follows:

– Wednesday, 29 January, 6.30 p.m.

Landowska, Falla and the modern Clave

– Wednesday, 5 February, 6.30 p.m.

The Goldberg of Landowska in the new key Pleyel

– Wednesday, 12 February, 6.30 p.m.

Landowska through his texts
