The Diplomat
The Australian Ambassador to Spain, Rosemary Morris-Castico, highlighted the valuable contribution of her compatriot and Hispanist Luke Stegemann to the generation of links between the two countries during her speech at the presentation of the book “Madrid. Historia de una ciudad de éxito”.
At the event, organized last Thursday by the Spain-Australia Council Foundation and the Australian Spain Business Association (ASBA), the diplomat took the opportunity, she said, “as a reader and foreign inhabitant of Madrid”, to thank the author for his work to make the city closer, known and accessible through his writing.
During the presentation, Admiral Javier Romero, president of ASBA on behalf of Navantia, introduced the author’s biographical profile, which gave way to a relaxed chat between Luke Stegemann and Vega Yubero, director of the Spain-Australia Council Foundation, in which the author drew a deeper portrait of his vision of the city.
The audience was also able to participate, with questions through which the author expanded on the details that mark his work and his love story with Madrid.
A close collaborator of the Spain-Australia Council Foundation for years, Luke Stegemann is a cultural historian in love with Spain, but not with the blindness that produces the initial attraction, but from a deep fascination, generated over the years through knowledge, study and dissemination of the city.
