The Council of Ministers has authorized this Tuesday the signing of the extradition agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The extradition agreement between Spain and Jordan, according to the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, is “the result of the desire of both countries to strengthen their ties and regulate relations in the field of extradition, which until its entry into force were governed by the principle of international reciprocity.”
The objective of the agreement is to broaden the spectrum of international legal cooperation, eliminating any spaces of impunity that may exist and facilitating the prosecution of crime through international channels, which is “an essential link in the fight against transnational crime and organized crime.”
In January 2022, the Spanish Embassy in Amman sent a Note Verbale informing of the agreement of the competent Jordanian authorities on the latest draft Agreement sent in 2021. A final agreement on the text was reached on 4 October 2024.
