Next Friday and Saturday from January 17 to February 1, at 7.30 pm, Casa de América resumes its programming with the screening of the feature film La fianza (2024) at the Taquilla Fin de Semana, a psychological thriller with black comedy tints starring Juana Acosta and directed by the Colombian filmmaker Gonzalo Perdomo-Tafur.
The film explores the fine line between trust and betrayal within a marriage that, at first glance, seems perfect and does so in the context of Latin American migration.
According to its director, “this film is born from two very simple premises. On the one hand, I am trying to tell the story of a woman who changes her country, culture and life in order to improve her situation. While, on the other hand, I am challenged to make a film whose plot shows, in one day and in one location, the struggle and empowerment of this same woman within a world that is completely alien to her, a world of men. ‘La fianza’ is the story of one of those many Colombian immigrants who live today in Spain”.
In the cast, they accompany actress Juana Acosta, Julián Román and Israel Elejalde, among others. The bail tells how after celebrating her daughter’s sixth birthday, Ana receives an unwelcome visit from Walter, a strange man who asks about Ricardo, Ana’s husband, with whom she has unfinished business. What starts as an uncomfortable visit for Ana, ends up becoming a disturbing situation in which she discovers the constant lies and infidelities of Ricardo, as well as the real reason why Walter is at his house: Hold her and her daughter as bail while Ricardo closes a deal with the dangerous narco organization that Walter works for.
