The Diplomat

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited this Friday at the Toledo Infantry Academy the soldiers involved in the European operation to train Ukrainian soldiers (EUMAM-UA).
Robles held a meeting with the 131 Spanish soldiers, belonging to the General Command of Ceuta, the Health Group and the Logistics Brigade, and with Ukrainian soldiers they are training, at the Toledo Training Coordination Center (TTCC). At that meeting, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defense, Margarita Robles was interested in the development of the courses, which have been expanded in their latest edition to adapt to the needs of the Ukrainians, and reiterated Spain's involvement in this mission: "I like coming to these training courses for Ukrainian combatants to highlight, once again, Spain's total and absolute commitment to Ukraine in this terrible, cruel war, which is going to enter its fourth year." "Spain will continue to help Ukraine, training the Ukrainians," she said. "We understand that this war has to end, but, in the meantime, Spain will fulfill its commitments to the European Union and NATO by supporting Ukraine and helping to train its people," she added. This is the fifth rotation to be carried out at the Toledo Infantry Academy to provide this training, which, within the framework of the EUMAM-UA operation, aims to improve the capabilities of the Ukrainians to effectively defend their internationally recognised borders and protect their population. The current members of this European mission belong to the General Command of Ceuta, the Health Group and the Logistics Brigade. Throughout the weeks that the course lasts, the Spanish troops instruct the Ukrainians in combat and survival tactics, as well as in health care. Lieutenant Colonel José Roberto, head of the Combat Training Unit, shared with the minister some cases of human stories, “with a special emotional charge”, and highlighted the involvement of the Ukrainians, who “appreciate the dedication of the Spanish military”, concluded the Ministry.
