From tomorrow until 22 December, the Compañía Nacional de Danza returns to the Teatro de la Zarzuela with the magic and emotion of the ballet La Sylphide.
The new line-up of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, under the artistic direction of its new director, Muriel Romero, presents one of the jewels of the universal repertoire of dance, the romantic ballet par excellence, La Sylphide.
This exquisite ballet in two acts, created in 1836 by August Bournonville, tells the story of impossible love between an ethereal spirit, the sylphide, and James. Set in a rural mansion in the Scottish countryside, beautifully recreated by Elisa Sanz’s scenography, where the wedding of Effie and James is being prepared. The wardrobe is Tania Bakunova. Old Madge, dedicated to necromancy and witchcraft, plots a cruel revenge in which the sylphide dies victim of a deadly spell.
There will be ten performances with a cast of 47 dancers who have been prepared for this premiere with the teachers Petrusjka Broholm and Arantxa Argüelles, both good connoisseurs of the technique Bournonville. The music of Herman Severin Løvenskiold will be performed live by the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid conducted by maestro Daniel Capps.
