The presentation will be attended by Katalin Tóth, Ambassador of Hungary; Jaime Moreno, director of the Centro Sefarad-Israel; Alexandra Ciniglio, author of the book, and Eva Leitman-Bohrer, whose family history is collected in this work. The book tells the story of the family of Eva-Leitman Bohrer, a survivor living in Madrid. Please confirm your attendance by emailing rsvp.mad@mfa.gov.hu.
It was 2017 in Madrid, Eva Leitman-Bohrer had been cleaning the apartment of her recently deceased father when she found a large archive inside an old safe with all kinds of papers, certificates, passports, letters and photographs. He knew immediately that they were the clues to reconstruct his and his family’s history, one that his parents never told him. At the age of 72, he began working with the help of journalist Alexandra Ciniglio, who with her investigative skills managed to decipher the path between Budapest and Madrid, passing through Tangier and also through Mauthausen, the death camp.
Alexandra Cinilio offers with The Secret Papers of Pape in a rigorous and at the same time amena, the story of Eva’s family, but also that of millions of victims of the Shoah, while making personal the role of Spain, the ancient Sepharad, which is claimed by diplomatic graces like Angel Sanz Briz, the Angel of Budapest, rescuing them from the clutches of death and offering them a new life.
