The Diplomat
The ambassador of Ecuador, Wilma Andrade Muñoz, together with the Consul General in Madrid, Paula Noboa, have inaugurated in the gardens of the Fundación Ortega Marañón of Madrid the cultural event 25 Years of the Ecuadorian Migration to Spain, that presents 32 multidisciplinary works by the artists: Soraya Constante (Ecuador), Beto Valencia (Ecuador) and Eduardo León (Spain) in which the migration theme is addressed from their respective perspectives: journalism, vintage art and photography.
This exhibition, part of the Ibero-American Design Biennial 2024, will remain in the gardens of the Foundation until 18 December 2024, when the International Migrant Day is celebrated.
“This show is very symbolic for Ecuador, said the ambassador Wilma Andrade, since it was a country of departure, but also today is a country of migrants. Soraya’s reports present the testimonies of our migrants in their early years in Spain; Beto’s creative vignettes reflect how a migrant relates to the new landscapes of his habitat, and Eduardo’s photographs allow us to see and hear the stories of our migrants and the Venezuelan exodus that Ecuador has been hosting in recent years”.
The inauguration was attended by the director of culture of the Ortega Marañón Foundation, Federico Buyolo; representatives of the Rumiñahui Association, the project director of the DIMAD (Madrid Design) Foundation, Gloria Escribano, Diplomatic Corps, Design and art personalities, media and digital creators.
25 Years of Ecuadorian Migration in Spain is the beginning of several cultural and academic days in Ecuador for 2025, and invites us to reflect on and break down stereotypes and prejudices about migration through stories, Photographs and illustrations that bring us closer to the reality of our population and its relationship with Ecuador and Europe.
