The Hungarian Embassy offered a gala dinner last Wednesday which constituted, in the words of Ambassador Katalin Tóth, “a special gastronomic trip to celebrate a worthy end of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union”.
In her speech, the Hungarian ambassador thanked the ministers of the Government of Spain, Albares, Marlaska and Planas, for their support at events scheduled during this semester, as well as that received by her colleagues from other embassies and, above all, “to the employees and collaborators of the Embassy. According to our current estimates, he pointed out, we have organized about seventy events throughout Spain”, of a political, labor, business, cultural and economic nature.
Katalin Tóth underlined the adoption by the Heads of State and Government of Spain and Belgium of the Budapest Declaration on 8 November; “on whose implementation we are working tirelessly, as it could clearly constitute a solid basis for the Competitiveness Plan in which we are all involved”.
“The Hungarian Presidency, continued the Ambassador, has strongly supported the accession of Romania and Bulgaria as full members of the Schengen area, so we are confident that our work will be crowned with success.”
Ambassador Katalin Tóth was keen to mention the “importance of enlargement of the European Union. Our presidency has made significant progress with several western Balkan partners. We welcome the holding of intergovernmental conferences and the opening of new chapters based on merit. Hungary will continue to work with the same commitment towards integration, even after the Presidency”.
“We all work for the same Europe, said the ambassador. Our past and our future are common. Our aim is to achieve a better, stronger, more successful and safer Europe.”
