The Escenario Puerta del Ángel in Madrid will host from today until 16 February 2025 the Cirque du Soleil with the Great Tent of Alegría (Joy) – Under a New Light, a creative reimagining of its internationally acclaimed 1994 production, Alegría.
First released in 1994, Joy is one of Cirque du Soleil’s most beloved shows; a fan favorite that has contributed greatly to the company’s signature style internationally. Alegria captivated more than 14 million viewers in 255 cities in 40 countries during its 1994-2013 tour.
To mark the show’s 25th anniversary in 2019, Cirque du Soleil released Joy – Under a New Light, a complete reimagining of its acclaimed 1994 production, redesigned to inspire today’s audience. Through a new stage direction, musical arrangements, acrobatics, choreography, costumes, make-up and set design, this renewed show reinvents the original classic while capturing the emotions, melodies and essence that reside in the essence of its success. With an international cast of 54 acrobats, clowns, musicians and singers, Joy – Under a New Light is a contemporary revival that embodies all the emotion, magic and joy that has made the world fall in love with Cirque du Soleil.
