<h6><strong>The Diplomat</strong></h6> <h4><strong>During a reception to celebrate Thailand's National Day, its ambassador to Spain, Vosita Vorasaph, said that “together, both countries, we can do much to address the challenges of this era to human rights,” in the year that marks the 154th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two kingdoms.</strong></h4> Vorasaph said he was <strong>proud that both Thailand and Spain have been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2025-2027.</strong> He also expressed his satisfaction that “we also have the support of Spain in our bid to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)”. Thailand's request to join the OECD coincides with the recent announcement of the <strong>priorities expressed by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to revive the economy and improve the competitiveness</strong> of the Asian country. These are objectives for which the ambassador stressed that his country counts on “important trading partners such as Spain to promote trade, investment and our role on the world stage”. Throughout 2024, the Embassy of Thailand continued to promote the knowledge of this country in Spain through person-to-person contact and various cultural, gastronomic, cinematographic and sports activities. Among them, he highlighted the i<strong>nauguration of a Buddhist temple in Aiguafreda</strong> (Barcelona) and the <strong>celebración in Madrid of the first Songkran Festival.</strong> Finally, he congratulated for the <strong>recovery of the direct flight Madrid-Bangkok “which has brought our cultures and our peoples much closer”.</strong> Therefore, the Thai ambassador ended his speech by assuring that for the coming year “I have great enthusiasm and optimism about the enormous possibilities” that both countries have to improve their bilateral relations.
